I would like a very descriptive way explaing a golf handicap, what’s it for and what it does?

Please give a detailed description of
1. What a golf handicap is?
2 what the difference between a golf handicap and handicap INDEX?
3. What are the purposes of a golf handicap?
4. How might one use their newly found handicap to improve their golf game?

Basically lets take a golf course that has a par of 70. If you play a few times and average about 94 then technically your handicap is 24. This is now your playing guide so if you score par on a hole you recieve points. Or if you go round next time in like 90 you have improved on your handicap however you have to keep it consistant before you can lower it.

A golf handicap is used to improve your game thus trying to lower it to scratch which is 0 par all around the golf course.

Trust me once you have a handicap and golf often it will improve your game.

golf rules and etiquette when making the turn?

I was playing 18 holes the other day at a local course and when I made the turn from #9 to hole #10 there was three groups waiting to tee of off . I was told that the starter told these groups to start on the back nine because the front nine was busy. There was no ranger at the tee box to let us play thru . should I have told the other groups that I was making the turn and cut in front of them ? I didn’t want to start a fight on the tee box .

I can’t say for all courses, but the ones in my area are “those making the turn have first right to the tee”. They even have signs in between the 9th and 10th holes that say that. I’d check with the starter or pro- I think you got hosed… won’t do you any good now, but in the future things will be different.
