How do you keep golf clubs rust free?

I have cleveland TA6 irons and I keep them in the back of my car. I live in western PA where the summers are hot and humid and I’m getting little rust specs on the shafts and the grooves of the clubs. Is this bad leaving them in my car 24/7? Any tips on how to prevent this and remove the rust?

My prevention tips:

1. Inspect the club heads regularly in between the holes, especially after a bunker stroke.

2. Wash them off with some water – so take along an additional bottle of water.

3. Brush out the grooves with a soft brush.

4. Then rub them dry with a towel because otherwise the grass and sand will stick to them again right away.

5. Always put back the woods in your bag protected by headcovers.

6. If you are no longer able to brush or soak your lady golf club heads clean, a fine steel wool brush may offer relief. Do this quietly and carefully!

golf etiquette for kids
Should I bring my kids to a PGA golf tournament?

I’m new to golf and will be going to my first tournament and would like to bring my 2 & 4 years old with me to watch. I know golf is much into etiquette, so is it appropiate to bring kids that young along?

No, you shouldn’t. For one, they’ll be bored. They’ll have no idea what’s going on anyway. Even if the 4 year old likes golf, he won’t like being there. Also, it’s probably not allowed. I forget what major I was looking into (either the Masters or PGA Championship), but they don’t allow young children. They pretty much leave it up to the parents as to what age is acceptable, but if I remember right recommend 7 or older as a starting point. It still depends on the kid though. I’m sure you’d be forced to leave either way if they found your kids to be disruptive.

video golf slice
How Do I Fix My Golf Slice?

Im 16 years old and I’ve begun to slice the ball only off the tee with my driver or woods. I want to hit the ball straight!!can somebody help me or give me tips? Even a link to some video would be helpful. Thanks

A slice is caused when the driver (or any other club) imparts a left-to-right sidespin on the ball (for righthanders). The sidespin is caused by various reasons:

1. An open clubface at impact. This is when the clubhead fails to square due to wrong ball position. If the ball is teed too far to the right of your left toe, the clubhead meets the ball too early, thus the clubhead does not get the time to square up. The solution, therefore, is too tee the ball a little nearer your left toe. Note that the ball will fly to the left if the ball is too much towards the target. Move the ball towards the target in small increments until you get your desired ball flight.

2. An out-to-in swing path. When your shoulders are open (aimed to the left of the target), it promotes an out-to-in swing path relative to the target line. Many slicers try to compensate for their slice by pointing their shoulders to the left of the target. This makes the slice problem worse.

To checkif your shoulder alignment is the problem, address the ball in your usual way where your feet and hips are square to the target line. Have someone lay a shaft on your chest parallel to your shoulder line. Check where the shaft is pointing. If the shaft is pointing to the left of the target, then your shoulders are open causing the slice.

The remedy is simple: by keeping your feet and hips square to the target line, square or close your shoulders by twisting your upper body to the right until the shaft on your chest points at, or to the right of the target. You may feel a little awkward at first. Note, however, that too much closing of the shoulders will cause the ball to fly to the left. You, therefore, have to adjust the alignment of your shoulders relative to the target in small increments until your ball flies straight. Be conscious about where your shoulders are pointing before every swing in order that you will know how to repeat the shot when the ball flies straight.

3. Backswing is too upright. A too upright backswing will have the tendency to cause an over-the-top downswing which causes an out-to-in swing path which, as stated above, causes a slice.

Read golf magazines like Golf Digest or Golf Tips. They always have cures to a slice.

I hope that you will cure your slice like I cured mine. Enjoy.

What is the total amount spent annually in the U.S. on golf videos, books, and other instructional golf aids?

I am looking to start a business and was given various figures on the total amount spent in this country each year on golf videos and anything else that could be classified as an instructional aid (software, books, etc). I am looking for a number that does NOT include golf lessons.

Wow, I have no idea. Probably trillions of dollars

golf etiquette for women
Do you have the right to use any caddy you want on a golf course?

A female caddy service which provides glamorous models trained in golf etiquette has been banned from courses for “damaging the reputation of the sport”.

The women, who wear tight-fitting pink uniforms, are provided by Eye Candy Caddies, which describes itself as the “gorgeous new solution for unforgettable golf days”.

A golf course is private property. The owners can set whatever rules they want regarding who can use the course.

Caddies are paid for their services. The course can set even more stringent rules regarding who can use the course for the purpose of making money.

New to golf – any tips for teeing off?

I was working on my horrible slice time before last at the driving range and thought it was fixed…now the next time when I went to the driving range the balls all went straight, but almost all went about 150 yds on the ground…ugghhh!!! I really do try to keep my eye on the ball and not pop my head up, backswing slowly, and try to follow through well – I dont know what else I’m doing wrong!!! Do those cheesy looking golf videos at the video rental stores help??
I would appreciate any tips that you could give me that I might could concentrate on when I go back out to the driving range tomorrow. Thanks!!!

Here are a few things to think about:

1. Grip. This is the most important part of the swing, and is the only thing that connects you to the club. Make sure that your grip is right — just because your grip is “comfortable” when you are holding the club does not make it necessarily the correct grip.

2. Weight distribution. Many people think that you should have most or all of your weight on your right side when you take your back swing (assuming you are a right-handed player). No. More of your weight should be on the left side, which leads to #3:

3. The reason to have more of your weight on your left side is because you want to ensure that your body is as quiet as possible during the back swing and down swing. What I mean by this is you want to limit movement of your body as much as possible. Putting a little more weight on your left instep will greatly help you avoid swaying your body.

4. Address. make sure that, on the tee shot, if you are hitting driver, the ball is forward in your stance (near the instep of your right foot (again, assuming you are a right-handed player).

5. Your head. Do not move it until you count to 2 after making contact with the ball. Many people think that they are watching the ball, when in fact they are looking up far too early.

6. Slow down Most golfers, when driving the ball, try to crush it as far as they can (even if they maintain that they are taking an easy pass at the ball). If you think that you are not swinging hard, you probably still are swinging too hard — make your swing even slower.

7. Don’t go past parallel. Most golfers, when taking the backswing, extend the club WAY WAY past paralell on the back swing. What I mean by this is that they take the club back so far that it goes much further than paralell to the ground behind them. If you watch the best players, they take the club back and behind them, but the club never goes past that prallel line with the ground. Just look at Tiger — he never brings the club over his head too far. On the other hand, John Daly takes it so far past parallel that he can easily see the club out of his left eye when he reaches the apex of his backswing. However, none of us has his skills.
