golf fix hook
How do I fix a hook in my golf swing?

I just went golfing for the first time today, and i was reasonable at everything accept I kept hookjing the ball right. i’m a righty.

There are so many ways you are hitting a hookd. since i cant see your swing i’ll just give you some tips.

the same way that pulled and slices shots happen from a flawed swing, hooked shots are closely related. for your swing im assuming that your club approaches the ball on a seere in-to-out swing. kind of like this ” / ” bottom is the in and the top of that slash is the out. check your divots if your hooking it they will look like that…if your pulling it, it will look like this \ (same this as a slice.)

position of the clubface ultimately determines the shape of the shot you hit. severly in to out swings with a closed clubface will create a big snap hook creating counter clockwise spin on the ball. you need to not only improve the position of the clubface but, on producing a swing that delivers the club on a much better line through the impact area, which will create a straight and more accurate shot with as little backspin as possible.

here are 6 tips you will need to work on.
1)weaken your right hand grip- turn that hand to the left on the club. this will help your right hand from becoming to active and will help keep that club face straight.

2) open up your upper body in relation to the target line at adress, also play the ball foward in your stance

3) halfway into your backswing, make sure the top of the club points skyward. if your problem is severe, try to feel your left wrist “cupped” at the top of your swing

4)Work on “clearing” your body through impact. Feel that your hips are opening up to the target, and your right shoulder is moving forward as you strike the ball

5)feel that the Grip-end of your club is swinging left after impact, but at the same time the clubface remains open

finally 6) practice shots from a sidehill lie with the ball below the level of your feet. this will encourage you to swing the club on a steeper plain, getting it to approach the ball on a straighter line

sorry for writing so much i hope this helps

Good question Brotha

golf tips irons
my golf game is ok but im having a hard time getting under the ball when using irons.any tips?

i tend to hit on the top of the ball so it stays low and i cant get any distance.when i try to get under the ball i usually overcompensate and dig into the grass.this problem is adding 20 or more strokes to my game.i do pretty good with my long and short game its just trying to get under the ball without dragging the ground while using irons.I seem to do better with my izzo hybrids but not much better.Please HELP!!!!

Many, many amateurs have a problem with what you are. The basis of the problem is a fault in how you imagine the club working.

The proper way to hit an iron is to contact the ball first with the clubface, then start your divot past the ball. Your swing actually bottoms out an inch and a half or so past the ball with an iron. This means you are accelerating through impact, trapping the ball to make it shoot off the clubface, and creating backspin as well.

Here is a slow motion video of what I am talking about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20JNb4Ihxgs&feature=related

I think that this visualization should help you quite a bit. When you mentally think you need to “scoop” or “get under” the ball it causes many inconsistencies in how you hit the ball. I would also highly recommend getting lessons from a local PGA instructor, they will help your game much, much more than any piece of equipment and make the game much more enjoyable.

Hope this helps, and good luck!!

Struggling With Flat Swing?

Swing Description:
My swing PLANE isn’t flat or too inside. I’ve took a video of my golf swing and my plane is pretty much straight up and straight down. However, at the top of my swing, my hands somehow get in a flat position. I pretty much take all of my full swings to parallel, even my irons but at the top of my swing, My club does not point parallel to my target.

I think that the point where I am confused at is the mid point section of my swing where my hands cock and the toe of the clubhead points up. Do I just bring it straight up from that wrist cock? That does point my club parallel to my target and I do not get flat but Isn’t that a two-plane swing? I just want to be one plane, straight up – straight down, where my club gets in a good position.

Yeah you should just bring it straight up but I would get a lesson with a pro so he\she can make sure that you are perfecting the move properly.
Good luck!

golf tips chipping
can anyone give me tips for golf

does anyone know 5 tips to remember for each of the following areas of golf…?

driving
using fairway woods (desperate for tips here)
chipping (again, desperate)
putting

pleeeeeaaaase help me!! any tips at all will help, no matter how small you think they are

Driving:
Keep your eye on the ball.
Don’t move your head.
Make sure your stance is shoulder width or less, the smaller the club, the narrower the space between your feet.
Take a practice swing to see where the club hits on the down swing, then put your ball at that spot.
Don’t hold the club too tight, the club does all the work, not you or your muscles, your job is to bring the club to the ball.

Fairway Woods
Use a 7 wood in heavy grass if you can swing the club head through it. If not, use an iron.
Use a 5 wood if the fairway is fairly level.
Use a 3 wood for a low arching shot, i.e. from under trees, only if there is little turf.
Use a practice swing–see above tip.
To target where your ball will go, look over your left (if right handed) shoulder and line up your shoulder with where you want to go.

Chipping
Practice your irons so you know exactly how far they will go.
You will use your pitching wedge for most shots (under 50 yards for me).
Keep your feet together.
Keep your left arm straight.
Chop out of heavy turf, hit like a putt if nearly level.

Putting
Draw an imaginary line from the hole, through the ball and behind.
Practice how far back you need go to get a given distance.
Always follow through.
Always keep the putter on the imaginary line (never go back so far you curve.
Aim to stop at the hole no matter what.

tiger golf swing
How much torque (N m) does a golf swing put on the average person/Tiger’s knee? What can I compare this to?

As is obvious to anyone who has seen Tiger swing a club, he puts a tremendous amount of torque on the knee he is getting surgery on. I am wondering if there are exact measurements as to how much torque people, particularly Tiger, put on their knee during a golf swing. As I am relatively unfamiliar with physics, I would also appreciate a comparison of that measurement to something understandable.

Here it is in simple terms.
Torque = Force X lever.
The lever is the distance from the center of curvature of the swing.
Force= mass X acceleration

Mass is the wt of the club, his arms and the ball itself when he hits it.
Acceleration if from the equation
accel=w^2(r)
Here is how you find the r. Find the point where half of the mass of the swing is further out, and half is closer to the center. That is the r part of the acceleration.
Now let me get in to the w. Just at there are 360 degrees in a complete circle. There is 2*pi radians in a complete circle. Approx 6.28 radians in a complete circle.
w=radians/second
Try to find out how much time it takes to complete the swing and how much of a complete circle it takes. Take the percentage of a complete circle, multiply it y 2 * pi and then divide it by the amount of time it takes to complete that swing. That would be w. Take the w to the second poser, this is w^2.
