Care to evaluate my golf swing? See video…?

I recently changed my swing for my driver–I hit my irons very well, but my driving is sub-par at best. So if you would, hit the link and tell me what you think about my “new” swing. I am hitting it 225-240, with about a 10 yard slice. To compensate, I am aiming for the left of the fairway, and seem to do okay. However, I know I am capable of more reliable drives (straight and 245).

Here’s the link; thanks in advance for your tips!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yPfFDE0H_m0

BTW–this my Nike Sasquatch 10.5*…I like it alot =D

Also, in the video–it’s the same swing twice over–the first is regular speed, and the second is in slo-mo…

How tall are you? How long is your driver?

Equipment:
1) Your driver appears a little too long.

2) Your driver appears a little too head-heavy (swingweight too high).

Setup:
1) I can’t tell much about the grip from that angle.

2) Stance is slightly narrow. Widen the stance slightly and point your right foot straight forward–not pointed to the right as in the video.

3) Ball position is ok until you move to the right when you adjust your feet. Then, the ball may be getting too far forward.

4) You seem to really be reaching for the ball.

Swing:
1) Your head rises when you initiate the backswing.

Stop that. Practice by taking very slow swings. Try to imitate your slow motion video with your actual swing. Have you ever seen a hummingbird feeding? Their wings are going very fast, their body is moving and adjusting, but their head focused on the flower and is motionless. Think about imitating the hummingbird in your slow-mo practice swings.

Your head rises when you initiate the backswing. Then, your heads dips when you start the downswing. Next, your head slides forward. Finally, your head pulls back. That is way too much movement if you ever want to consistently hit the ball flush.

2) You are rolling your hands (clubface) open in your backswing. This is part of the reason why the ball is traveling to the right. All this does is introduce a bunch of timing issues into your swing. You need to be eliminating anything that must be timed to hit the ball straight.

3) Balance is an issue that will hinder your advancement.

Your main flaw that must be fixed is your balance. You need to be rock-solid in your balance throughout the swing. This is a MUST!

The next thing you must work on is staying behind the ball. This is a MUST!

The Good:
Now, your swing plane is better than most your age. I like the way you keep your club coming from inside with a tucked right elbow in your downswing.

It is also good that your driver has 10.5° of loft. This is good for your swing speed.

Practice swinging the club very slowly until your head stops moving around and until you develop some balance. That’s your homework: Balance and steady head. Buy ($15) Ben Hogan’s book, “The Five Fundamentals….” His description of the setup is excellent. [Beware: If you read the section on "The Grip" and try it, then, as long as you roll your hands in the take-away, your slice will get much, much, much worse. If you will stop rolling your hands in the take-away, then you will immediately add about 10 to 20 yards to your drives without hitting any harder.]

Post another video once you develop more balance and get that head to stop bobbing around. Practice slowly and use patience. Golf is not a race and it’s not a long drive contest. Now go practice in your room in front of a mirror.

What golf clubs should i get… HELP!!!?

I just got back into golf last summer after a year break and i need help finding some new clubs for next summer. I know the basics about finding new clubs. Best round 86, driver swing speed about 94, drive about 260-270 strait.
HELP, what clubs should i get?
Please include driver, fairway woods, hybrids (if applicable), irons, wedges, and putter

THANKS A LOT

It depends a lot on your swing analysis, go to a professional and ask for it. Golf smith has Golf TEC or look for a golf TEC store near you.
They have a Machine named VECTOR and can tell you even which ball will work better for you.

golf fix hook
How do I fix a hook in my golf swing?

I just went golfing for the first time today, and i was reasonable at everything accept I kept hookjing the ball right. i’m a righty.

There are so many ways you are hitting a hookd. since i cant see your swing i’ll just give you some tips.

the same way that pulled and slices shots happen from a flawed swing, hooked shots are closely related. for your swing im assuming that your club approaches the ball on a seere in-to-out swing. kind of like this ” / ” bottom is the in and the top of that slash is the out. check your divots if your hooking it they will look like that…if your pulling it, it will look like this \ (same this as a slice.)

position of the clubface ultimately determines the shape of the shot you hit. severly in to out swings with a closed clubface will create a big snap hook creating counter clockwise spin on the ball. you need to not only improve the position of the clubface but, on producing a swing that delivers the club on a much better line through the impact area, which will create a straight and more accurate shot with as little backspin as possible.

here are 6 tips you will need to work on.
1)weaken your right hand grip- turn that hand to the left on the club. this will help your right hand from becoming to active and will help keep that club face straight.

2) open up your upper body in relation to the target line at adress, also play the ball foward in your stance

3) halfway into your backswing, make sure the top of the club points skyward. if your problem is severe, try to feel your left wrist “cupped” at the top of your swing

4)Work on “clearing” your body through impact. Feel that your hips are opening up to the target, and your right shoulder is moving forward as you strike the ball

5)feel that the Grip-end of your club is swinging left after impact, but at the same time the clubface remains open

finally 6) practice shots from a sidehill lie with the ball below the level of your feet. this will encourage you to swing the club on a steeper plain, getting it to approach the ball on a straighter line

sorry for writing so much i hope this helps

Good question Brotha

golf swing tips slice
how do I fix an out to in golf swing and reduce my slice?

I have a slice and I have been trying to correct it, I know I have an out to in golf swing but I don’t know how to correct it and make it in to in. If anyone has any training methods or tips, please help lol.

Try putting your driver head cover about 3 inches to the outside of the ball. Lay it so the end of the head cover is even with the golf ball, and the rest of the head cover is toward your back foot (long ways). When you swing you will be able to tell instantly if you came from the inside. If you hit the head cover you came from the outside, if you miss the head cover you came from the inside.

Just make sure it’s a soft head cover, so you don’t damage your club.

Hope this helped:)

How Do I Fix My Golf Slice?

Im 16 years old and I’ve begun to slice the ball only off the tee with my driver or woods. I want to hit the ball straight!!can somebody help me or give me tips? Even a link to some video would be helpful. Thanks

A slice is caused when the driver (or any other club) imparts a left-to-right sidespin on the ball (for righthanders). The sidespin is caused by various reasons:

1. An open clubface at impact. This is when the clubhead fails to square due to wrong ball position. If the ball is teed too far to the right of your left toe, the clubhead meets the ball too early, thus the clubhead does not get the time to square up. The solution, therefore, is too tee the ball a little nearer your left toe. Note that the ball will fly to the left if the ball is too much towards the target. Move the ball towards the target in small increments until you get your desired ball flight.

2. An out-to-in swing path. When your shoulders are open (aimed to the left of the target), it promotes an out-to-in swing path relative to the target line. Many slicers try to compensate for their slice by pointing their shoulders to the left of the target. This makes the slice problem worse.

To checkif your shoulder alignment is the problem, address the ball in your usual way where your feet and hips are square to the target line. Have someone lay a shaft on your chest parallel to your shoulder line. Check where the shaft is pointing. If the shaft is pointing to the left of the target, then your shoulders are open causing the slice.

The remedy is simple: by keeping your feet and hips square to the target line, square or close your shoulders by twisting your upper body to the right until the shaft on your chest points at, or to the right of the target. You may feel a little awkward at first. Note, however, that too much closing of the shoulders will cause the ball to fly to the left. You, therefore, have to adjust the alignment of your shoulders relative to the target in small increments until your ball flies straight. Be conscious about where your shoulders are pointing before every swing in order that you will know how to repeat the shot when the ball flies straight.

3. Backswing is too upright. A too upright backswing will have the tendency to cause an over-the-top downswing which causes an out-to-in swing path which, as stated above, causes a slice.

Read golf magazines like Golf Digest or Golf Tips. They always have cures to a slice.

I hope that you will cure your slice like I cured mine. Enjoy.

golf swing tips hook
Golf swing…slice/hook.?

i have a pretty bad slice in my golf swing. Especially off the tee with the driver. i am a lefty… does anyone have any tips that would help me improve my game?

Do you play Baseball or Softball?
If so, you are dragging you back shoulder through impact.
If you don’t play Baseball, take a look at your hand position when you grip the club.
Are you seeing the knuckles of your gloved hand?
If not, try gripping the club and have the “V” that is made between your thumb and fore finger point to your left shoulder, this is called a weak grip.
Just remember where your sweet spot is when you practice, so you can take it to the course.
Also, just prior to hitting your drive after you set up, raise the club to shoulder height and take a few swings that way, then tap the ground with the head and then take your swing.

Good luck and have fun.

golf swings slice
What part of the golf swing causes a slice?

What part of a golf swing causes a slice, how would you cure it

A slice is fundamentally caused by imparting “clockwise” side spin on the ball (for a right hand-er). There are a multitude of things that a person can do to cause this, and without knowing “what type of slice” you have, it really isn’t possible to tell you of any fixes over this medium.

Here is a list of some of the possible reasons:
- Your club vs your body’s alignment to the target; (i.e. your body may be aiming well left, but your club is aiming at the target)
- Club face open at impact
- Club face square at impact while swinging across the ball from out to in (looks like a back Slash “\”)
- Not transferring your weight correctly
- Golf shafts too stiff for you (this would lead to a really weak low slice)
- Ball could be positioned too far forward in your stance

Given all of these possible reasons for slicing (and i’m sure that there are more that i just can’t think of at present), the only way to truly cure it is to invest in some lessons with a pro. Now they will make a couple of suggestions and some of them may feel awkward or strange, but if you stick with it, and practice, you’ll improve. Lastly, if the pro suggests simply aiming further left and allow for it, ask for your money back and find another coach.
