How much would it cost to open up and run a golf shop in a small town?
Well, first check out property costs in your area. Or, even just to lease a small place in a strip mall. Next, you would need to get in touch with a distributor of different golf lines and analyze what your cost would be there. Start up costs, for employees, signage, advertising, supplies, computers… etc.. There’s a lot to it. Good luck.

what outdoor activities are good for kids age 2-6?
We are in Tampa and in need of something outdoor to take our kids to. beach, mini golf, bowling, movies, mall and laser tag are all out of the question
I don’t understand ,then why did you take them to Florida and not take them to THE BEACH I mean I understand the other stuff but THE BEACH , I’m 36 and still remember running up and down THE BEACH at 5 years old! If your that overprotective,
just take them to the zoo in Tampa! again the zoo!

San Diego Golf Academy?
Has anyone attended the SDGA? How was it? How were the classes? Is it worth the almost $30,000 for an associates degree? Good instructors? Did you find a good paying job after the class? How were the living conditions? The people? Do the credits transfer to a four year college if neccisary?? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I have NOT attended SDGA, but………….
I have worked in the golf industry for 15 or so years in 4 different states.
I am not here to deter you from attending the school. If money is not an issue and it is something you want to do (I here it is very fun) then I would say by all means that you should go. It will definitely help you in the future. But of all the GM’s and head pro’s that I have worked around (shop staff included) very few went to an academy.
If working in the golf industry is a goal of yours I would recommend that you just start doing it. If your good enough to get your PGA card (the PAT is a breeze for good players) then you can do all the studying on your own at a fraction of the cost and time.
So, is money is an issue??? Then skip it. If you are young, got the time and money then I would definitely say do it (but you will still have to pass the PAT and do all the studying anyway).
Good Luck!!!

my husband wanted to start his own driving range in our backyard. i wanted to add a min golf for kids. we were both thinking of also making a snack bar/ gift shop also. i wanted to know what permits and liscence we would need. thnak you
I am not sure exactly, but i did a search on google and found this link.

I know it is a UK address, but it can help you with finding out what you may need.
If you have the land for it, you should have no problem, as you would just need a building permit. Then you would need a food and beverage permit if you have a snack bar. I think you should start with the Range and Mini Golf and see how that goes, then you can add in a snack bar if needed.

What are some good “Stay and Play” packages and courses to golf for the weekend?
We are looking to stay overnight on a weekend in May and play 2 or 3 rounds of golf in 2 days. We are interested in Vermont, New Hampshire, Eastern Pennsylvania, New York. I would prefer high quality courses. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
In New York you can go to Turning Stone.
There are three courses (one is PGA) and just an awesome experience. I hope you decide to take the trip. Enjoy the write up.

Home to The Turning Stone Resort Championship on the PGA TOUR, the Oneida Indian Nation’s resort has evolved into the premier golf destination in the Northeast.
Three preeminent golf course architects — Tom Fazio, Robert Trent Jones Jr. and Rick Smith — have each crafted masterpieces at Turning Stone. In addition to the three 18-hole layouts, the resort’s ensemble includes two nine-hole courses and an indoor training facility.
The Atunyote Golf Club, designed by Fazio, will host the 2007 Turning Stone Resort Championship Sept. 17-23. PGA TOUR players will vie for $6 million in prize money. The course is located in a secluded setting several miles from the resort. In typical Tom Fazio style, the course features numerous water features, spacious bunkers and quick putting surfaces.
The Kaluhyat Golf Club, created by Jones, is a classic shot-maker’s course marked by tight fairways and well-protected greens.
The Shenendoah Golf Club, the Smith compilation, is the dean of the resort’s championship offerings. The site is abounding with preserved wetlands and ornamental native grasses.
Smith employed the same meticulous attention to detail in designing Sandstone Hollow, Turning Stone’s par three course. It’s the ideal venue for novices or accomplished players looking to fine-tune their short game.
Pleasant Knolls, a regulation-length nine-hole course, is a player-friendly layout with open fairways and gently rolling terrain.
Turning Stone’s indoor training facility houses 40 hitting stations, two putting surfaces and a bunker. It’s also equipped with the Model Golf instructional system.
The Golf Academy at Turning Stone is staffed by PGA teaching professionals offering individualized or group lessons.
