I’ve hit the links a dozen times or so, and have really taken a fancy to golfing. My goal is to break 100 in 6 months. However, i am still a beginner. I tend to top the ball, slightly mis-hit, and my swing isn’t too fluid
before i spend the money on professional tutelage, I would like to learn a few swing basics about set up/ swinging in a plane, stop slicing, etc. Basically working from the ground up.
My question is: Are there any sites on the WWW that are devoted to beginner golfers, or that offer tutorials to beginner golfers? Sites with video tutorials? I figure if i get some basics down, it will give me an advantage going into my lessons, saving me money by not using so much of the instructor’s time.

This will be one of the few times I encourage someone to stay off
the internet and get a book.
Like you I am new to the game. The book that was most suggested was Ben Hogan’s Five Lessons. You can purchase this at Barnes
and Noble for about 12.00 and yes this is still in print.
This is great!!
Swing Description:
My swing PLANE isn’t flat or too inside. I’ve took a video of my golf swing and my plane is pretty much straight up and straight down. However, at the top of my swing, my hands somehow get in a flat position. I pretty much take all of my full swings to parallel, even my irons but at the top of my swing, My club does not point parallel to my target.
I think that the point where I am confused at is the mid point section of my swing where my hands cock and the toe of the clubhead points up. Do I just bring it straight up from that wrist cock? That does point my club parallel to my target and I do not get flat but Isn’t that a two-plane swing? I just want to be one plane, straight up – straight down, where my club gets in a good position.
Yeah you should just bring it straight up but I would get a lesson with a pro so he\she can make sure that you are perfecting the move properly.
Good luck!

There are so many golf training aids out there. I am 15 years old about 5′9 and 120 pounds. I can only hit my driver about 170-210 and can’t hit my irons very far either. I want to improve my tempo, swing plane and basically anything else. What is the best training aid for me or best solution for me? Thanks
Your young, keep swinging, strength will develop.
Despite what people say strength does matter in golf.
Big strong guys hit the ball further.
Maybe swing a weighted club, or tape three cubs together.
Get a net and mat, just hit more often.
Good luck!
Hi, I haven’t been to a swing launch monitor and I don’t really feel like shelling out $50 to do it. I was just curious though what my swing speed estimate would be. Right now I have a Callaway Big Bertha 460 driver with a regular Aldila shaft. I have been carrying it about 250 on average. If you could give me a reasonable estimate on what my swing speed is that would be great.
That first guy is wrong. Tiger, Phil etc swing around 120-125 mph. I hit it 280-290 and my swing speed is about 110 mph. Your’s is probably around 100. You might want to look into getting a stiff shaft. Anyone who hits it around 250 should have one…but then again, if you hit it straight, dont worry about it.
I’ve always kind of cycled with my golf swing, especially with my driver. I can only hit my driver straight every so often and I’ve never been able to use a 3 or 4 iron. Does anyone have any suggestions on good books that could help me out with my swing and perhaps all aspects of my game?
