I’ve hit the links a dozen times or so, and have really taken a fancy to golfing. My goal is to break 100 in 6 months. However, i am still a beginner. I tend to top the ball, slightly mis-hit, and my swing isn’t too fluid
before i spend the money on professional tutelage, I would like to learn a few swing basics about set up/ swinging in a plane, stop slicing, etc. Basically working from the ground up.
My question is: Are there any sites on the WWW that are devoted to beginner golfers, or that offer tutorials to beginner golfers? Sites with video tutorials? I figure if i get some basics down, it will give me an advantage going into my lessons, saving me money by not using so much of the instructor’s time.

This will be one of the few times I encourage someone to stay off
the internet and get a book.
Like you I am new to the game. The book that was most suggested was Ben Hogan’s Five Lessons. You can purchase this at Barnes
and Noble for about 12.00 and yes this is still in print.
This is great!!
do hands, arms, upper body, or legs power the golf swing?
I have been playing golf for over 40 years, very inconsistently. i often hit iron shots fat, my tendency is to hit irons on the outer 1/2 of the face (nearer the toe than the sweet spot) and most often pushed. My background is baseball which i believe causes incorrect hand and wrist movement through the golf swing. Baseball is a much “whippier” movement, snapping wrists through impact, driven by the hands. Wrist snapping through golf impact is a disaster.
Golf on the other hand from what i can gather is much less about hands and more about using upper body rotation to power the swing.
Are there any good videos, drills i can do to reinforce the correct hand/wrist movement?
The golf swing is usually initiated by the lower body on the down swing. The turn of the hips initiates the down swing and the rest of the upper body follows from the bottom going up. Picture your body like a twisted rubber- band recoiling back to its natural form. There is a video by David Leadbetter ,”David Leadbetter Interactive” that might be able to help you. It has a part where he talks about swinging a baseball bat similar to a golf club. Good Luck!
