Do I have a chance of getting into UCLA, UC Irvine, UC Davis and UC San Diego?
College applications are approaching, and I’m thinking if I should even apply to colleges I don’t have a chance of getting into. I come from a high school that’s quite competitive, and it’s pretty hard to get into honors/ap classes. My sat score is relatively low. Do colleges specifically look at your weighted or unweighted gpa?
weighted: 3.85
unweighted: 3.65
sat I: 1720
3 community college courses
extra-curricular – golf, peer leader, homeroom officer, CSF (California scholarship federation) officer, student govt and 4 other clubs, after school tutor
Volunteer jobs: library, hospital & day cares
Had an internship over the summer
Thanks.
The UC system compars both your unqeighted and your weighted GPA’s, though they place the emphasis on your weighted GPA. You should take the SAT again, in hopes that you can improve by a hundred points or so. You have great EC’s, and you have demonstrated that you are a hard worker. A lot of volunteering, which you have, helps tremendously. You should be a shoe-in for Irvine, Davis, and San Diego, but UCLA is a stretch. If I were you, I would apply to all those schools, because you should get in to at least three of the schools in which you are applying to. I can guarantee you this much: you will be getting into any UC you apply to, with the exception of Berkeley and UCLA, even though you still have a chance.
