I recently got my daughter, who’s a 5′5 Freshmen in high school, Slazenger golf clubs. Is that a good beginner set?
They are ladies clubs- I got them from Dick’s Sporting Goods For $275

Difficult question to answer in this form. Not enough info to answer question. I’m not familiar with that particular brand of golf clubs, though I know they are a name in the golf industry. Not knowing where you purchased the clubs is a question would help for your answer. And, of course, are these women’s golf clubs?? So, suggest you go back to your origin of sale, if it was a golf course, or golf store. Really, you should have gotten this information at time of purchase. Best way would be to visit a local golf professional at one of your local golf courses. They can help you find out if these golf clubs fit your daughter or not.
Golf is tough enough to play even with the best fitting clubs.

Who makes good golf clubs for beginners?

Can I get a good set for less than $500?

Should I only go for a half set?

Nike makes golf clubs for all levels of play. The new Sumo irons are for higher handicaps and the make the blades for the lower/scratch handicaps. They make clubs for the mid-handicapper too. They don’t leave anyone out.

golf beginners handicap
How does a golf handicap affect each hole? i’m a beginner with an unofficial handicap of 38?

The only time it will effect each hole is when you play by holes. Let’s say your playing a 36 handicap. You will get two strokes. Each hole has been rated 1 through 18. The 1 handicap hole is the hardest. You would get one stroke on the number 1 and 2 handicap hole.

What is the best set of golf clubs for a left handed beginner?

I want to purchase my first set of golf clubs. I have not been golfing too many times but I am pretty athletic and a quick learner. I am not trying to be a pro but would like to have fun. I usually spend a little more than average on my sporting equipment because usually you can get better quality and if nothing else at least it makes you more confident. I want to spend around $1000.00 on clubs and I am wondering what else I should buy shoes, bag, glove, etc. I would also like to know the basics when it comes to club selection, offset, shaft length, stiffness, etc. Someone who could summerize for me would be great!!!

I am left-handed but play right because it was easier for me to learn that way and club selection is greater. Golfmith has an excellent selection of right and left handed clubs though. They also have a golf simulator that tests your swing-that will help determine what kind of clubs you need. Stiff versus flex, speed rating etc. Even though I am a lady, I have a very fast swing speed of 125+ mph so I need a very stiff graphite shaft so I chose a men’s set (Nickent). I find that graphite shafts are more forgiving than steel. I have been playing almost everyday for 3 yrs and my game has changed so much that I am glad I waited to invest more money on clubs until I was able to understand what my needs were better.

Golf tips for beginners?

I am already getting lessons from a pro and have all the equitment what i want mostis tips on improving my swing and posture thanks!!!

Look at your swing in a mirror and compare it to successful golfer like Tiger Woods. Try to mimmick his posture and where he is and the top of his swing. And dont forget to work on the most important part of golf, your grip. A good grip makes or breaks the golfer. Practice alot and try not to get frustrated. Have fun.

golf tips putting
Does anyone have some good putting tips for golf?

(not mini golf)
lol

As was already mentioned, make sure everything is in alignment: toes, knees, hips, shoulders, and eyes. Try to get your eyes right over the putting line.

Next, use the big muscles of the back and shoulders to strike the ball. Don’t get your wrists or hands involved in the stroke.

You might also try different gripping methods like left-hand low or the claw.

During practice, try putting while looking at the hole, not the ball.

Make sure the stroke makes the ball roll end over end without skipping.

Does it really matter if golf clubs are old and worn? What are the good clubs for beginners?

I’m wanting to buy a golf club set. I see clubs at the range I can use for free and one brand I remember is callaway. Is that a good brand? They have mostly worn golf clubs. I have played golf already and taken one semester class.
I just don’t think golf ranges would risk giving out good value clubs for people to borrow since people can easily steal them.

Just use what you can for a while. Used clubs are good for beginners because they are much much cheaper and you don’t have to worry about denting or dinging them like you would a set to 500 dollar clubs. After a while (6 months to a year or whenever you feel like your ready to move up) go to a pro shop and have your swing analyzed and see what a pro recommends for you. There are so many different clubs out there and everyone has their own preference so you really should spend a lot of money on a nice set without trying them out first to see how they feel and see if they fit your game.

Hope that helps… Good luck!!

Help with golf club (irons) selection around the course?

I am a relative beginner to golf, and am having a bit of trouble selecting the correct club to use whilst on the course. Does anyone have a basic guide to what club I should be using in line with the distance/ground etc. For example if I am 200yds from the flag and in the rough etc.
Cheers.

The first thing you need to do is get to a golf range with accurate yardage markers and hit some balls: See how far they get and either make a mental note or write your yardages down, because not everyone hits the ball the same distance. Just swing normally and dont try and blast the ball – you want to get an idea on your ordinary range without over-doing it.

As a rough guide for a beginner, you may expect 140-150 yards from your 7 iron. For each iron you go away from that, add or subtract 10-15 yards, so if you hit your 7 iron 140 yards, you can expect to get 125-130 yards or so from an 8 iron. For your 200 yard example, expect to use a 4 iron (or hybrid).

When you’re out on the golf course though, you must remember to take wind and elevation into account. Its all very well being at the 150 yard marker and thinking “I can hit my 6 iron for 150, I’ll use it”, but if the wind is against you or its uphill to the green, then you’ll need to take more club; i.e. a 5 iron instead of the 6.

Conversely if the wind is coming from behind you or you’re playing downward to the green, you might choose to go the other way and use an 7 iron to avoid overshooting the green.

On a dry day, consider the ground may be more bouncy and the ball may roll further. The opposite is true if its raining heavily or the ground is already wet.

Lastly, consider your lie: If you’re in thick rough, you’ll often do better to take a club that can get the ball back into play (like a wedge or short iron) with a sensible shot rather than taking that long ‘hero 3-iron’ attempt at the green.
