what is a fair price for a VW Golf GT TDI 1998 R reg 135k miles?
There’s a 1998 R Reg Golf 1.9 GT TDi 110 on Autotrader at the minute for £2795 with 102k miles, so if that was anything to go by, I would suggest about £1950 providing there’s some service history.
Personally however, I would be wanting to pay closer to £1000 because the mileage puts me off – even though VW engines can last up to 200k+ if looked after.

Where can I find a VW Golf for sale?
I am interested in finding a VW golf or rabbit (preferably an older model) for my first car. I can’t seem to find any on CarMax and I don’t know of any used car dealers that still sell them. Does anyone know where I might can look and what might be some safety hazards to be aware of in older cars like this?
Older cars are not equipped with today’s safety features, such as antilock brakes, power steering, airbags, crumple zones. They are death traps. I wouldn’t advise getting an old VW for a first car for those reasons.
